I went to the "Bandstand" at Weymouth which is right on the towns main beach and can only be sailed during the winter. My freinds DaveW and "Nugget" who you may have read about in this months Boards news section, should have been there but were drinking coffee at Windtek instead.
The wind was cross-on and while there were no waves there was a bit of a swell and some chop to play on.
It was a little cold but the sun was out and it was a really bright day, as good as they get for this time of year.
I rigged a 5.7 North Convertigo to use with my Screamer and by the time I had set up Nugget and DaveW had turned up. I had a couple of reaches with Nugget across the bay in front of the town but was never really powered up.
The wind swung bang on shore and dropped so Nugget and DaveW went round to the harbour. I waited a while then packed up and drove round to Windtek.
After a little retail therapy I was the proud owner of a new Starboard 121.
I joined the others at the harbour where the wind had really picked up and was blowing cross-on from the right, very clean with most people out on 5 to 5.8 and going well.
I should have used the Screamer but wanted to try my new toy so I took out the Starboard and 5.7 Convertigo. I was really impressed with the Starboard but knew deep down that I would have more fun on a smaller board so changed down to the Screamer.
I then had about two hours of blasting across quite choppy water due to the wind direction which was as good as it gets for this type of sailing.
There was about 30 other windsurfers out and about 10 kitesurfers. Both groups shared the water with no incidents or hassle.
All in all a great time.
